Cotton futures track the price of raw cotton fiber, the world's most widely used natural textile. Key producing and exporting countries include the United States, India, China, Brazil, and Pakistan, and prices are sensitive to crop conditions, global apparel demand, competition from synthetic fibers, and trade policy. Seasonal planting and harvest cycles in the U.S. Southern states are a traditional price influence, while Chinese import demand often sets the global tone.
