It is widely used in catalytic converters — particularly for diesel vehicles — as well as in jewelry, chemical processing, and emerging hydrogen fuel cell technology. South Africa dominates global supply, accounting for the majority of world production, making prices sensitive to mining conditions and labor developments in that country. Prices are quoted in U.S. dollars per troy ounce.
